“Suburban Solar”

Another weird image that popped into my head.  I plan to color it mostly black and white, with a little color for the sun and flowers…

“Choking on Venom”

I was half asleep when this image burned into my brain. I woke myself up long enough to make a note of what it was and then later sketched it out onto paper. I plan to color it in or turn it digital, but for now, here’s my work in progress. I’m not sure if they’re worms or snakes, but since I decided on the title – Choking on Venom – I may just turn them into snakes.

Both of my grandmothers are still alive, thankfully, but lately they really haven’t remembered a whole lot…

My Haitian grandmother (above) who just turned 97, I believe. She remembers a bit more than my other grandma (below) who is runner up at the young age of 85. Unfortunately, alzheimers has been setting in and she just sits with a blank stare most of the time.

Both images were part of a series I had to do for a final project at College.

“3rd Eye”

This weeks topic for Illustration Friday is “communication”. While most people refer to communication as talking with another human, on the phone, in person, email, letters, etc, I think of the word communicate and the third eye pops into my mind. Communicating with the dead, if you will. Ever since my grandfather past away, while I was in 5th grade, I’ve come across some mighty strange happenings. I still, to this day, remember him coming to say good bye the day after he died. My cousin said I was imagining things and what I’d seen were shadows of the boxes that had been in the room, but I knew better. I saw the form of an actual man, a young man, not square shadows. My mom told me at that young age that I had a gift that I should nurture, begging me to tell him one last time that we love him should he ever return to visit. Ever since that day, my sleeping problems have been ongoing, and to this day I still view the third eye and what I’ve seen over the years as a curse. Now that I’m starting to understand it almost 20 years later, I’ve slowly been more willing to look into other dimensions and consider the possibility that the third eye might actually exist…
